Stainton is a historic village on the south-west edge of Middlesbrough (TS8), forming part of the civil parish of Stainton and Thornton. It sits between Coulby Newham and Ingleby Barwick and is about 4–5 miles south of Middlesbrough town centre.
It’s known for having a traditional village feel despite being close to major residential areas and transport links. The village has roots going back over 1,000 years and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, with evidence of Norse and early medieval settlement.
Population of the wider parish area is roughly 1,200–3,000 depending on the boundary used, making it a small and relatively quiet residential community.
